Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. It was developed from a short melanocortin/ACTH-derived sequence with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension intended to improve stability. Experimental literature has explored neurotrophin expression, inflammatory gene regulation, neurotransmission, oxidative-stress responses, and ischemia-related models. Published evidence is predominantly preclinical and regionally concentrated; Semax is not an FDA-approved drug in the United States.
